RIP: G.D. Spradlin

I just read that great character actor G.D. Spradlin (Head Coach B.A. Strothers) passed away this past weekend at the age of 90.

He seemed like a distinguished gentleman whose portrayals in movies went far deeper than what was called for in the limited roles in which he was cast.

So long to a great working actor.

"And me? I go on to become a big star in Italian Westerns."

I never would have guessed he was over 60 when he made Tank!

Here is an interesting interview I found at youtube:

Seems like a real down-to-earth guy.

G.D. was a great character actor. He was fantastic in Ed Wood.

Impossible to find, even on Peer to Peer, but if you ever get the chance, try to watch the Robbie Benson movie "One on One". Kind of mirrors the NDForty role, but is real good.

Shaker - I had seen "one on one" a long time ago - you're right - it was a great film for G.D.

I think I'll order it on Netflix - thanks for jogging my memory!

He was also fantastic as the senator in Godfather II. "I intend to squeeze you...I despise your masquerade..."

What I found interesting is that he was already a multi-millionaire from the oil business before taking up acting.
