Ripe for a remake

It seems that almost every other movie in the late 1970's or most of the 1980's is being remade. This movie was quite good, but I don't think it can't be redone. And I'm sure people in Hollywood don't think so.

reply

Ssssshhhh, don't give them any ideas. Hollywood thinks any movie can be remade, they're just too stupid to have considered this one yet.

reply

Concur x1000. They already remade it anyway. It was Any Given Sunday. And it sucked.

But is Adam Sandler still young enough to star in it?

Well, that's one surefire way to make a remake suck.

I loved the movie but was pissed they did not follow the book 100%

As much as I like the movie and the book, I'm not sure that a remake would "work". The original flick's popularity was due to the post-Vietnam, anti-Establishment mood in the country in the late 70's. It resonated in that environment. It could very well be like "The Longest Yard" all over again. The original was a product of its times, and the 2005 remake was largely superfluous. I watched it once, it was OK, and I don't expect to ever watch it again.

However, a remake of ND40 could work by setting up a dramatic conflict between ownership and Phil Elliott, with the front office trying to find a way to void Phil's contract to get out of paying him. I have no doubts that such things happen routinely in the NFL in the salary cap era, with an aging star getting big $$$ whose physical skills are slipping.

Question: if a remake did occur, who would play Phil Elliott? What actor has the star quality to carry a movie, AND enough physicality to get an audience to suspend disbelief as an NFL wide receiver. Dwayne Johnson (The Rock)? He played college ball at Miami.

Yes! Thank you, Janelle. I would love more of your moist and hot pie. -- Sterling Malory Archer

No, with the pusses we have now days (liberals) it would be about tearing down a football stadium because some stupid frog was on the endangered species list. It could be global warming to, lmao. The real Pete Gent was 6'4, so someone tall like
Alexander Skarsgård from True Blood. But knowing Leftwood, they would put some shrimp like Elijah Woods in it as Gent.

reply

I've already told your stupid ass Lee1888, you are a liberal! Everything that comes out of your mouth is liberal but you're too stupid to figure that out! You are far from conservative, in fact I don't like you claiming yourself as a conservative because all it does is embarrass me and makes all conservatives look like brain dead idiots like yourself. Get a life loser!

reply

My my, a zombie moron like you has no business telling anyone any thing useless your mother gives you permission. Oh, by the way, your father ask me to tell you to stop sleeping with your mother.

reply

LOL... Yep sounds like an intelligent conservative alright! NOT!!!! That sentence didn't even make any sense and only a 12 year old, which you probably are, would be offended by that statement! You're a liberal dude get over it.

reply

The best part of you ran down your mothers legs, she still doesn't know who your father is.

reply

You already used that one, be a little more original!

I think the game has changed so much that there isn't as much interest in a remake of this as much as a new story set in the present day. The closest they've come is Any Given Sunday. I know that isn't the same, but it's somewhat close.

reply

I think you're right. So much has changed over the years...Now you have everyone in business. The players have their own management team to deal with the management of the team. My guess is there's so many layers of management in the game today that it's not as one sided as this movie showed. Once they're a wanted commodity they make sure they're covered so they can't get screwed as bad as some of these guys were

reply

A remake would make sense. The NFL is currently going through domestic abuse and child abuse allegations. A remake would be perfect.

Some guys who could play Phil Elliott:

Chadwick Boseman
Chaske Spencer
Nathaniel Arcand
Michael Spears

What do you guys think? Any other good ideas?

reply

Not to upset you, but f%&k you. I can't stand remakes! How's about we leave classics alone and come up with original/fresh ideas. What do you think?

reply

Hear, hear.

reply

Seriously. Sequels and remakes freaks....I'll never understand them. The only sequel that ever worked was Godfather II... And maybe "King Kong" with Jessica Lange and Jeff Bridges was the only decent remake of anything, and that was mostly because the first monkey in the '30's, didn't scare anybody!

I like where you're head's at davbot, but in the sorry state of affairs comedy finds itself in because of our crybaby PC society there's no way they can remake ND40 & keep it's '70's edge.

Want proof our PC society is ruining what people will admit to finding funny? When Gene Wilder died recently & there was all the TV, websites, & Twitter tributes? The majority all had Willy Wonka or Young Frankenstein pics & gifs?

Only one had the moment from Stir Crazy when Wilder had to pretend he was black to get by the Feds in a train station. One out of how many thousands? You know who it was to post it? Darin Tino, that's who.

This guy's gonna be big
