yeah, i mean i am only 33. however,I know of freds play. notle looked a lot like him. the tape up wrists ,the face mask, the mustache. plus, phil had great hands, and he couldnt run fast, and he looked like he couldnt take a hit without almost falling apart.
al dumped him because of this? That i didnt know.
i was thinking that about meredith....because that would make that backup qb guy like roger stalbach. right? i dont know a lot about the cowgirls history. i do know roger was the all american christian.

can ya pm me the ending of the book? the unlucky play?
shareI read the book North Dallas Forty, which was written by former Cowboy Peter Gent. The movie follows the book pretty closely, but the movie left out the book's darker ending.
shareFred Biletnikoff was Nolte's trainer on set. There is not doubt that Nolte patterned his look and demeanor after Freddie for his character.

In a white room with black curtains near the station
I witnessed Stabler and Biletnikoff completing a pass to two pretty girls in Melendy's Bar in Santa Rosa during the Raiders' training camp. They told the girls they were football players. The girls asked if they played for a near by college (would have been Sonoma State or Santa Rosa Junior College. LOL!) They explained they played for a professional football team. And then they were off.....into the night.
shareInteresting that Stabler followed Namath at 'Bama....& then was the hard drinking skirt chaser in the NFL a la Namath. Also, they both won a Super Bowl.
shareBased on the semi-autobiographical novel by Peter Gent, a Cowboys wide receiver in the late 1960s, the film's characters closely resemble real life team members of that era, with Seth Maxwell often compared to quarterback Don Meredith, B.A. Strother to Tom Landry, and Phil Elliott to Gent.
