I just watched the movie for the first time in years, I forgot or didn't realize that John played the center on the team, at 6'8 that is one big center. Usually the center is the smallest player on the line, I cant think of one that was ever that big. I was a big fan of his ever since the Redskins signed him in 1976, he didn't make the team but was signed by the Raiders who won the Super Bowl that year.

John Matuszak passed away on June 17, 1989 as a result of acute propoxyphene intoxication, an accidental overdose of the prescription drug Darvocet, according to the findings of the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office. The report also said that hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (an enlarged heart), and bronchopneumonia had been contributing factors in the death. He was only 38 years old.
