Anyone considers this movie to be his best work?

Even through Manhattan and Annie Hall are considered to be two of his greatest works (Crimes and Misdemeanors usually comes in third place), I was surprised to discover that there were no posts concerning this topic. I'm I the only one who prefers this movie over Annie Hall?

reply

Not at all. This is my favourite Allen movie, and in fact probably my favourite movie of any description.

I like this movie but I dont like Annie Hall.

But hey I like his earlier funny films. After making this movie he went downhill and only Hanna and her sisters was a hit

reply

This movie is miles ahead of Annie Hall, by any criteria.

"Manhattan" is Woody's magnum opus.

I like it well enough, but I'd place Stardust Memories, The Purple Rose of Cairo, Bullets Over Broadway and Crimes and Misdemeanors before it (and the same goes for Annie Hall).

I would have said I prefer Annie Hall until I re-saw Manhattan the other day -- first time since it came out, and it was even BETTER than I remembered. Yes, I think it is his masterpiece.

reply

It's my favorite Woody Allen movie and probably my favorite comedy ever.

I also prefer this to Annie Hall.

To me, it is his most poignant, honest, and complete film.

I'm also originally from Manhattan, so there's that.

reply

I prefer MANHATTAN to ANNIE HALL.

I've been a fan for many years, since my parents took me to 'Love and Death' when I was 10. But for some reason I'd never seen this movie. Always wanted to, but had never done it.
Till this week.
I finally bought a copy on ebay, and it arrived on Monday. I've now watched it five times in five days, and it has just that quickly overtaken 'Hannah and Her sisters' as my favorite Woody Allen movie.
Amazing movie. What a classic.
