His character isn't supposed to be likable
I see people complaining that Woodys character is a creep since he's 42 and dating a 17 year old, especially in light of his real life drama's and accusations, which is understandable.
But I don't think that's the point.
I don't think his character is supposed to be likable in the first place. He tried to run over his ex wife with a car, he's a mediocre father, he's in love with his best friends mistress, he's impulsive and narcicistic, and he's dating the 17 year old because his divorce took such a blow to his ego.
Sorry to be so unnecessarily long winded, I just feel like a lot of people misunderstand this film/the main character.
