Who else think johnny didn't deserve what max does to him at the end? Ok, Johnny raped a girl earlier in the movie and set Goose on fire, but he wasn't present when they murdered Jessie and Sprog. Max's actions aren't justified. Would you honestly kill johnny rather than simply arresting him?

He was at May's but wasn't present when the gang runs Jessie and Sprog over. I can see only 6 bikes, not 7. Johnny is missing.

Maybe if you watched more carefully, you'd notice there were seven bikers approaching Jessie just before they killed her. Besides, Johnny was clearly one of the bikers seen riding after the gang broke down that door. That is, before the gang was on the road. Since Johnny was missing right after they killed Max's family, there must have been some continuity error. There is no way a bike can stop or change course in just a few seconds. In any case, Johnny was a stone cold psychopath and even admitted it to Max.

Is the OP saying if Johnny had been there to kill Jessie Max would have been justified? He did leave a calling card of Jessie AND Goose when going on his rampage. Plus he doesn't actually know who did what does he? He just knows the gang did it. How would he know Johnny wasn't there.
The whole point annoys me. Protaganists aren't there to adhere to a perfect moral code, they are there to be characters and real human beings. It is not a contradiction for Max to behave not completely justified in his revenge. He is portraying a real person that has lost everything in his life. Iy is realistic that he is not completely reasoned in his every action

i believe the whole point of the movie is about a man losing everything and becoming just as bad as the people he used to arrest. road warrior is about a man finding something worth living for and becoming the good guy again.

As for Johnny: The whole gang laughed after him. He was accepted into the gang just because he "killed" The Goose. What he didn't - The Toecutter did. Later in the movie ass* like Mudguts and Starbuck did accept him, but -in no way- he was a real member of that gang. Even if he got the TC tatoo on the left side of his neck.

I always thought that Johnny was 'accepted' only because he was Toecutter's boytoy. But I could be wrong...
shareI agree with the general notion of Max losing it in MM and finding some form of redemption in MM2/RW but I have to disagree about being "just as bad" as Toecutter's crew in the first film... He gave Johnny a real chance to live, that's more than the Goose ever got.
