a lingering film
I saw The Little Romance in the year 1981 and 2 movies that still remains etched in my memory are The Little Romance and The Summer of 42. Both these movies leaves you with lingering memories. I was in school when i saw these films and guess its the age that involved me in the characters of these films. Its shot beautifully, the story is sublime and the actors are just tailor made for the film. Sir Laurence Olivier and Diane Lane are still remembered for many other roles, but Thelonius Bernard will always be remembered for that cute and innocent portrayal of Daniel Michon in this film. Oscar winner George Roy Hill has directed this film beautifully and the music by Georges Delerue will haunt you long after the movie is over.
The story is simple and set in Paris. 2 kids meet in school and begin a little romance. They come across an old man who has a tale to tell. He informs the kids that if they need to be forever, they need to kiss under The Bridge in Venice. The kids and the old man travel to Venice, but it is no easy journey. The story is narrated at a brisk pace and the ending could never have been scripted so well. See the movie and enjoy the feeling at the end. Roman Holiday and Casablanca have left many a cinema goers enthralled and with a lump in the throat; i bet this movie will leave you with indellible memories.
