I'm watching the DVD of "A Little Romance" and just wanted to say that Ashby Semple, who played Nathalie, was just plain WONDERFUL in this movie! She was so funny. I wonder if she ever did another movie? If she didn't, it's Hollywood's mistake for not putting the terrific little natural comedian in more roles.
After the movie was over, Semple received offers for other movies but her mom didn’t want her involved in the business. After high school, Semple attended Harvard, where she was a founding member of an improv comedy group, and graduated with a major in literature.
She founded two theatrical groups and taught screenwriting and acting in New York before becoming an English teacher at Harvard-Westlake.
Semple worked as an actor, director, and teacher at the Cornerstone Theater Company in Los Angeles (of which she still is an associated artist).
I agree. Her performance was one of the most natural and real comedic performances I've ever seen. She must say "god!" 15 times, but it never gets old or even tired. It's a real shame that she never did another movie.
I agree. She was actually my favorite character in this movie. I was dissapointed that her character and Daniel's friend sort of dissapear from the movie around the middle of the movie. I thought they would have made an interesting couple.
I was also loved/obsessessed on "A Little Romance" when it came out, and I still know every nuance in this movie, as it was extremely big in my life back then. In 1983 I was working in a pub in North London, and, honest to god, Ashby Semple came in (we used to get a few actors/musicians in there because there was a TV studio nearby). I don't know what she was doing there, and I didn't say anything to her because I was totally starstruck. I still remember that she ordered a tomato juice. And she sounded just like Nathalie when she said it!
