Could have been better
I kind of feel the movie is about Lauren's fantasy really. She is smart and wants to bring this dream to life about love... but honestly, Daniel is not the right guy at all... their relationship has no positive development at all throughout the film, in fact he's actually quite mean to Lauren most of the time, and has no true voice of his own except what he's projecting from old films he's also living in a fantasy with...
Diane Lane is amazing, but ultimately, there is very little true romance, except an idea, a cute sense on Lauren's part, but Daniel, even in the end when they say goodbye, they return to that one brief positive moment they shared, but everything after was not a good friendship.
Perhaps it's honest that way in that young love can be so blind and not necessarily founded in anything of substance, but often times it can... which makes this film unusual since it's a side of a child's personality we don't generally see too often in film... most of the time the kid is portrayed as overly mature and always right in terms of their love... but here we see, they're just kids... living in their own bubbles... and there really isn't much there between them actually.
Interesting movie.
