Wait to see the live-action version

Or if you can't bear it any longer, see the BBC version. Out of the three, this version is at the bottom of the pile. I saw this flick in grade school and was annoyed by how it didn't follow the book closely enough. The animation got on my nerves too.
It's not worth your time.

I can understand distate for any film that
doesn't follow the book it's based on

but i did love the movie
i remember first seeing it on HBO

Are you kidding me? The BBC version was utter crap compared to this. Absolutely boring and dreadful.

I disagree. It might not be the best adaption, but it has a quaint atmosphere that really suits the story and at least in my case, makes me feel like a child again. It might not be everyone's piece of Turkish Delight, but it's certainly not a waste of time if you're a fan.

Aren't there four versions?

I thought there was one in the late 60s, this one, the late eighties series and now the new films...

I really liked this when I saw it back in 79 when it was fist made..
I just watched it yesterday from a video tape that I dug up.. from when Disney showed it back in the late 80s on cable.. and it still has a certain charm to it. I didn't read the books so I don't have a clue as to how close it is to the novels version..
But it is certainly a fun film to watch and it brought back some fond memories.

I like this adaption and I agree the BBC version is pretty awful.
