Why did HE particularly want Roy Scheider's character to die (which you clearly hear him see pretty early on in the film, the last time you see him) ?

I can understand why his late-wife's brother wanted him dead, but why his boss?

Schneider was better looking and now available, what with his dead wife. Obviously Walken's character wanted Schneid out da way so he could do all the office boffin.

Man, are you really that dense? An agent who's had a breakdown and is now a nervous wreck is highly expendable, and that's why he wants him dead. (Now I'm kicking myself, for explaining the obvious to you.)
