Who else loses it every time they see this scene? *spoiler*

The instant Billy says to his father "You're not gonna be able to kiss me goodnight anymore, are you Dad?" I bust like a spigot!
Then I completely sob when he says to him "If you ever get lonely, you call me up OK?"
That kid was the best child actor I've ever seen!!

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

Yep you hit it on the head. That scene gets me every time. I get emotional like a little school girl from that part haha

I agree! Not to mention when they're making French toast and the kid just starts sobbing. Words were hardly used in that scene and they were not necessary.

It is a heartbreaking scene, Justin did great.

...gets me EVERY time. I was 4 when this hit the theatres. My parents worked different shifts and my dad took care of me in the day and my mom at night. I remember my dad making me breakfast, making sure I got a bath and was all clean, him fixing me lunch and helping in whatever way I could.

My parents never divorced but still just watching this I recall those times and I cry ALMOST every time little Billy does but yes the french toast scene and those sobs as if he is clinging onto any chance to stay with his dad absolutely breaks my heart and I'm a 38 year old man now.

No kids of my own but if this ever happened to me and my (potential future)son, I'd probably go to jail. No lie.

Packtherac - Why would you go to jail? I don't understand?

I didn't cry but I was really sad at that scene, it definitely leaves you very emotional.

I do - without fail and in a big way.

My parents split when I was seven, and it was my mother who left for several months before returning to have custody of us for the rest of our childhood, so this film's story is close to my experience. I saw it when it first came out (I was about 16 or 17 at the time), and it didn't really hit me that hard. Perhaps I was still unable to deal with that emotional baggage. But when I see that scene now, it never fails; I just start blubbering.

Agreed! That kid did a phenomenal job acting.

My "lose it" scene was right after that when ted went to meet his ex downstairs and she tells him as he is hugging her that she isn't going to take their son from his real home. Ted's face instantly grimaces from the HUGE RELIEF that he isn't going to lose his son who he loves so much.

It's the only time in the movie that Ted strong show he was putting on for his son's sake is finally cast aside and his happiness/relief come pouring out.

I never felt so good for a character as I did for him at that very moment.

Love this movie.

I bursted out when he cries and asks "if I don't like it, can I come home?" OMG! They shouldn't have had that scene! (Made me cry too much.)

reply

I cry at all of those scenes too. I think that Ted was also crying when Joanna hugged him because he felt sorry for her.

Yeah,my eyes got very watery during that scene. I was raised without a father, but growing up I was very attached to mom. One summer when I was 7,my dad took me to stay with him for the summer. I bawled because here is this guy I barely know that's taking me for two whole months. And as a kid that sounds like an eternity. So, watching that scene I felt for the little guy

Well for me it was the scene where they are making French toast and now have their routine down pat.
