That was a solid scene, too. Billy is just p**sed after see all the other "mothers" leave and Ted is just trying to balance keeping his temper and not blowing up at him because he was out making a living.

Yes, Ted was working and had no choice. What you have said, is like shades of Joanna, who didn't seem to appreciate what Ted was doing either. However, Billy was just a kid and for him, he would have felt he was missing out and even embarrassed, because it was the mothers that were picking up the other kids and his wasn't around. Ted making a living, would have been far away from his mind. It was understandable how Billy felt and I think Ted would have understood this. I don't think he would have wanted to blow up at Billy over this and may have felt more annoyance at himself, because he couldn't get away earlier.
