This should be an honorary "Big Five" Oscar winner

The "Big Five" Oscars are Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Screenplay (either original or adapted).

Only three films have won in all five categories: It Happened One Night, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and The Silence of the Lambs. Several more have been nominated in all categories: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Big_Five_Academy_Award_winners_and_nominees

I submit that Kramer vs. Kramer should count as an "honorary" member of the Big Five list. It won Picture, Director, Screenplay (adapted), Actor, and Supporting Actress. Meryl's performance was good enough and big enough to have been a Best (Lead) Actress role (nowadays I wouldn't be surprised if she would have received a lead actress nomination for that role).

I actually (until really recentely) was convinced that it was part of the big five... Only recentely did I learn that the only thing blocking it from it, is that Streep is in the supporting category. I always been sure that she was in the leading...

It doesn't mean that It Happened One Night, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and The Silence of the Lambs deserved all five either

Especially since Streep had more screen time in KvK than Hopkins did in SotL.

Lambs is an odd call Mr H. While Hopkins only had about 17mins screen time, I think due to the superb editing of the film, the strong presence Lector exuded and how the script and film made his character appear omnipresent, I think Hopkins can just about get away with being lead. This is one exception to a category fraud that I can be flexible about. If he appeared in the film in the manner that Brian Cox did in Manhunter-86', then I would say definitely support.

Streep's performance didn't play out as a lead though. She disappeared after the first 5 minutes and then returned half way through as a "support" character to the rest of the proceedings.
