Seems like there are at least a small number of true core admirers of this masterpiece, so where is the DVD? I have such a hard time understanding ... is there a problem with the release, did they screw up the master tape, or what?
Or maybe John Heard has become a major superstar and wants too much money now?
I've never seen the "happy" ending -- kind of glad that I haven't -- but that's exactly the kind of feature/story that makes for great DVD content. I'd buy it.
FYI...it comes on cable TV all the time as "Chilly Scenes of Winter" in letterbox (the version with the sadder ending). What happens in the other version?
Maybe I have to get cable ... this movie is so perfect ... it is a perfect movie. The characters, the rhythm, the happiness the sadness, it is one of, if not my favorite movie. This movie helped me move on from almost the same situation in my own life ... in fact I began running ... I love this movie I want the DVD.
WHERE IS THE DVD ... could they release it with both endings, though I cannot imagine being able to stomach the happy ending, it would remove the whole meaning of the movie form me.
Just finished watching it on panned and scanned video - been trying to track it down for years. I live in England and they don't seem to show it on tv AT ALL! I like the 'unhappy' ending of the second version (though I think the showdown with Laura is perhaps a little rushed) but have you read the novel? It's also terrific, and the ending is really rather surprising... God knows if it will ever be on DVD...
That really bugs me, this movie is way too good to be stuck in limbo. As I think I might have said before as a movie and a work of art it is a work of brilliance and I loved every moment of it.
And have you seen 'Between the Lines' - same director, plus Heard, plus terrific, plus not available on DVD either. Is there some kind of anti-Heard / Micklin-Silver thing going on here?
