Ann Beattie's cameo

Did anyone catch writer Ann Beattie as the waitress in the scene where Laura rushes out after Charles says he didn't call her because the pay phone was busy? I thought I recognized the waitress, and sure enough, it's Ann! That's a very well-directed scene, filmed in one take and involving a fair amount of logistics.

The humour in it of course was that the writer of so many stories had nothing to say!
Great little joke there.

reply

Indeed. It's a nice little nod-nod-wink-wink to her fans.

Thanks, I did not know that. I wonder why they do not release this movie again? I love it.

reply

You're very welcome.

This film received a fair amount of airtime on HBO in the early '80s, and it reached more people when it was released on video, but sadly it's been decades since it's been part of the public consciousness.

It's one of my favorite films from the finest decade for film, and it's tragic that it hasn't been rediscovered and is most limited confined to occasional discussion in this little corner of IMDb from those lucky enough to find a copy.

As I mentioned in another post, it is available in the original theater release on NetFlix. I've watched it twice so far again. I wish I could find the soundtrack, or the music that is in it, particularly the ending music.

Yes, this film has a wonderful soundtrack. I have hundreds of film scores and soundtracks, but I've never seen one for "Chilly Scenes of Winter"/"Head Over Heels" in the bins. I'm happy to have this film on VHS, which I found for a buck at a thrift store.

I see your Netflix post now; I'll respond in that thread.
