I was just wondering, how could the authorities in the train open the safe and take the gold out once the train arrived at its final distination ? since the keys are actually left in the city where the train deprtured, how could the gold be taken out at the arrival point ? any ideas ?

The first scene is not the actual procedure. It's merely there to illustrate the narration.
The actual procedure is hinted at during the heist at the end. Trent's there; the key holders (or reliable replacements) travel with the train and the gold.
In the actual case, there were two sets of two keys (one for each safe), one set kept in London, one set in Folkestone, but this would not make a good movie about Victorian thievery, which did involve extensive stealing and acquiring of keys, since power tools or safe explosives were not available.
