Wow, could the main character be any less likable?

Is this *beep* supposed to be funny? This Santini asswipe is just a bully and a douche. Is that intended? I can't tell exactly what the movie is going for. Am i supposed to like this guy on ANY level, or is he supposed to be a complete *beep* to the viewer? I mean it's clear he's a flawed character, but it's hard for me to see much worthwhile in him.

The "little homo's sleeping naked" line was hilarious though.

Are you serious? It's not a comedy and no you're not supposed to like him.

It's a coming of age story about a boy who has a difficult relationship with an overbearing and violently abusive father.

No, you are not supposed to like the father - he is an *beep* He is a war hero, and a leader of men, and he even loves his family in the crippled way he can, but he is also an *beep*

He's not likable, but he is interesting.
