No nomination for Paul Dooley?

Who else agrees that he was amazing in Breaking Away?

I totally agree. He stole the movie as far as I am concerned. When you talk to other movie buffs about this movie, the line most quoted are his. Seeing that Barbara Barrie was nominated it is shocking that Dooley was omitted.

Refund? Refund??? REEEEFUND?!?!?!? Best actor in film, no contest, although most of the others were pretty good, too.

Paul Dooley is a wonderful actor. In this one he gives his performance of a lifetime. His ranks right up there with others who were not even nominated, but in my book should have won. Debbie Reynolds in Mother; Richard Gere in Chicago.

I agree. His career is that of a great character actor. In "Breaking Away" he is magnificent in a leading role. Overall, the casting and acting is superb in this film. Its a brilliant film with amazing production value shot on a modest budget. There is a magical quality about this film.

I was born in 1980, so I obviously don't remember, but I guess his omission was a huge snub, almost controversy. He was awesome.

He was outstanding and it was a travesty that Barbara Barrie (who was good, not great) got a nomination while Dooley didn't.

"His name is Jake, not Fellini...I won't have any "eenie" in this house!"

Yeah, I always assumed he had won, until I realized that Melvyn Douglas won the award that year. Upon further review, I was flabbergasted to see that Dooley wasn't even nominated! Truly a travesty. . .
