Actually, this Intrada CD release of The Black Stallion is NOT complete. The first CD doesn't have the actual film version of "Magnificent Horse." The second CD doesn't include the actual film soundtrack recording for "First Sneak" which is the short music cues accompanying the early morning race track trial. The "First Sneak" track included on this CD is a unused cue and it is clear why it was discarded: it is totally inappropriate for it sounds too dark and ominous. The actual music cue for The Black's first appearance before the crowd at the big race is also missing. The opening music tones and the first flashback cue are totally absent from the track entitled "Flashback & Winner's Circle."

However, this particular release does have the actual main title theme and all of Dick Rosmini's banjo and steel guitar recordings for the film. It is beautifully packaged with the wonderfully illustrated aforementioned CD booklet and all of the music has been perfectly remastered. Still, one wonders what Film Score Monthly would've produced with all of these original master recordings still available for The Black Stallion.

****UPDATE****

I just learned on another forum that the missing cues I mentioned earlier are from recordings lost due to the ravages of time. The soundtrack is "complete" as far as all of the recordings that survived. 'Tis a pity about the lost music tracks, but what is presented here is superb overall, eh. Be seeing you!

are the missing music needed or can the cd stand alone without the music presented ? - it's been a long time since i saw the film and the music is not the best i've heard (i think cd 2 is best)

I wonder if the theme that the father plays with his tune just before the shipwreck, and later Vangelis STOLE it for "Chariots of Fire" is included...
