Official News on "TPA-Remake'

I just recently read in the news an Official Report on the rumours of a proposed Re-make of the Classic 1972-3 "TPA" film.

This News comes from the "Chicago-Suntimes" Tuesday, March 2, 2004:

'PERFECT STORM' DIRECTOR FLIPS FOR 'POSEIDON' REMAKE

The Poseidon, the ocean liner that famously capsized back in the 1970's, is heading out to sea again.

Director Wolfgang Petersen and reality TV impresario Mike Fleiss are producing a remake of "The Poseidon Adventure."

The 1972 original told the story of ragtag group of survivors trapped on a passenger ship after it turns upsized-down.

Petersen is no stranger to seafaring thrillers, having directed "The Perfect Storm" and "Das Boot." ---- Hollywood Reporter

And thanks to a fellow "TPA" fan ... on the TPA message board, here's a link to another great article on the Confirmed Report on the TPA Remake being underway.

This is really good news but it got me thinking. As pretty much everyone in Hollywood today is obssessed with remakes and sequels, assuming TPA does well, which I think it will, what happens then?

They have a couple of choices.
1 They quit while they're winning. Unlikely (flog a dead horse and everything)
2 They remake Beyond TPA as the modern sequel. Unlikely after the poor reaction last time.
3 They completely forget BTPA and do a Batman on it, wiping out a piece, albeit a dodgy piece, of a story. It may have moments we want to forget, but we can't pretend it never happened.

Having said all this it could work out well. It has a great cast. I know it's early to be talking about a sequel considering the first remake only comes out next year, but I was watching BTPA today and it made me think.

What does anyone else think about it?

Obviously BTPA isn`t better than the 1st and a few things needed to be changed. However my personal opinion is that BTPA was a pretty good movie. The idea was believable and the cast was great. So I guess I would have to say if the remake of TPA is a huge hit and they get a good cast then yes definatly remake the sequel.

Hi Justin1-2

I did enjoy BTPA myself, but what I'm trying to say is the film didn't score well with the general audiences. A lot of fans of TPA especially. So going by the example of Batman for instance, there is a possibility that they will just wipe a piece of film history completely. I personally don't think it would be right, no matter what reactions it may have received. This also happens in the Halloween series to a certain extent.

But I do agree with you, the cast were quite good and you could believe in the characters

Hi fishnpeas,

I know the original post was from last year but I saw something recently that made me think about it.

I'm actually refering to the project, with Emmy Rossum and Josh Lucas, planned for 2006 release though. It should be good
