I just finished watching this film for the second time ever .... and noticed, right after the crew of the salvage tug-boat, "Jenny," enter the S.S.Poseidon, through the same porthole as the survivors from the first film escaped out of, they're shown looking down, and around their surroundings of the propeller shaft and later the boiler room ... anyone else catch a glimpse of "Stella Stevens'" character's [Linda Rogo's] dead body, lying amid the flames !!!!!!
I kept looking for the floating corpse of The Minister, but unless I missed it, found none.
I, too, saw it for the first time in over 10 years (Back when it was a regular on Lifetime.) recently. I, also, gave the film points for that little bit of continuity.
IMO, the movie isn't as bad as it often gets labeled as. In fact, I noticed this post because I came by to offer my own review. I think it's helmed by a very good cast and the idea is fairly original, as opposed to the usual idea for a sequel: one would normally expect they'd just focus on another group of miraculous survivors and how they get out. But, instead of dealing with people wanting to get out, the plot is spurred on by people wanting to get IN.
If they had stuck to Paul Gallico's original idea used in the book i.e. using the same characters who survived in the original film Rogo, Martin, Manny Rosen, Nonnie, Susan and Robin, the film would have been better. The original actors (Borgnine, Buttons, Albertson, Lynley, Martin... 7 years on young Eric Shea would have aged too much to play a ten year old!) were approached for the sequel but it never turned out. I actually found the book a very interesting premise but the film was appalling, mainly in the technical aspects. The sets looked brand new.
The shot of Linda's corpse is actually the same shot used in the original; it's just been recycled. She clearly took a long time to burn!
Gene Hackman was on some talk show and he mentioned that he had been approached about doing the sequel, even though his character obviously didn't make it to the end of the first. He explained that the film would begin with the survivors of the first film getting on board the rescue helicopter where he would greet them by asking "Did my brother survive?"
that would've been awesome, Majikstl!! But it's my understanding that Hackman LOATHED Poseidon and that he has--to this day, according to an interview a couple of years ago--never even seen the movie.
