was it realistic with survivors from the 1st movie?

I thought all passengers (except the few ones who got out) of the first movie died.
when a new version of "poseidon" came out earlier this year (2006), both the actor Kurt Russel, and Jay Leno, dissed, and made jokes about the 1970's movie.
but as far as i know, "Poseidon" (2006) totally flopped, so i guess the joke came back on that.

the floor underneath me is shaking,
the cane i try to lean on is breaking,
i will soon fall,
i'm hearing the call,
my head is dizzy, tired and in strange vision,
i hope i've finnished and completed my missions,
my health is at low,
and i know its getting time for me to go.

Im not sure what your question was exactly. In "Beyond.." it has different people than in the first film-A tug boat crew shows up, goes in the ship and finds more survivors. And yes, everyone connected with the 2006 remake made comments before its release about how campy or out-dated the 1972 version is, and that their version was going to be terrifying and set a new standard for action films--ooops!....I doubt their movie will EVER have the following that the 1972 film has-flaws and all.

Arrogant a$$holes (Now I'm glad IMDB censors that word 'cause the dollar sign is so appropriate here.) Whatever happened to having some respect for those who came before you? They wouldn't have been *doing* a remake (CASH-GRAB) if the original hadn't been a hit. Way to insult everyone who made, or enjoyed, the original. I hope it flopped, at least partly, because fans of the original stayed away in disgust. The original isn't one of my favorite movies of all time, but I'm still offended by this sort of rude arrogance...and the whole unnecessary remake phase Hollywood's been going through. I hope the jerks responsible for the Poseidon remake learned something from this, but I doubt it. They'll just go on insulting the public for not giving them more millions (like they need more) and rationalize their movie's failure. We're all just too stupid to "get" the brilliance of their revolutionary remake. Yeah.

Deep down, I think they know they're *not* doing anything important or groundbreaking (it's a REMAKE, not an original idea!) so they have to try to justify it to themselves, and to us, by putting down the original and claiming the new one will be better just because it's not "dated". Newer is aaaaalways better, right? Well if you have to be un-classy and sneer at the first version, I think that kinda proves your version sucks. When people create something great they don't *have* to put anybody/anything else down to try to lift theirs up by comparison. The people notice it's great, without being told.

Theoretically, it's possible other survivors would be on the ship. The novel refers to the people going towards the bow, and when the stern survivors are being rescued, they see people also being rescued from the bow, and they're still fully dressed and don't look worse for the wear.

I question the Mazetti character though. No offense to Peter Boyle, I was glad he was in the film, but the character was a blatant rip-off of Rogo from the first film. Two *beep* New York cops are both on the same ship? Seems a tad convenient.

I love to love my Lisa.

Mazzetti was a bartender (or bar owner-its never made clear) in New Jersey. He was a loud mouthed jerk, but Rogo was a better person.

It did not seem to have any survivors from the first movie!

Its that man again!!

Except, apparently, the ship's nurse, who had seemed to have gone on a massive crash diet!

Oh it was clear because he shouts, "I own a bar in Morristown, New Jersey!" By sheer coincidence, I saw this movie in 1979 in Madison, New Jersey which is right next door to Morristown and I will never forget how after he uttered that line the audience, which had no reason to expect it, suddenly started laughing like crazy and applauding.
