'Birthday' present

This is truly an overlooked treasure. I found this film for $2 at a thrift store, and it was money well spent. The aura of creepiness is very effective, and the cast is pretty competent. It's too bad few people have heard of this treat from Down Under.

I got my copy for about $2 at a thrift store too. I LOVED it. It was very creepy and very suspenseful. I watched it in the middle of the night and the scene where Alison first discovers the stone circle really creeped me out.

Things just got interestinger.

Thanks for your reply. I'm so glad someone else has seen this! I love finding obscure gems like this in bargain bins and thrift stores.

Interestingly, I just saw a documentary on Ozploitation films, and it mentioned that those stone circles were made of cardboard, and they kept falling down. Glad I watched this film first.

I just saw this movie for the first time and I loved it. My boyfriend liked it but thought it was a little slow at times, but not me. I didn't think it was slow at all. And I liked how the boyfriend got so involved in trying to figure things out and help his girlfriend. He easily could have ignored her nightmares and creepy relatives, but instead he took the time to see if there might be something sinister going on. He was a good boyfriend from start to finish. If only those selfish demon worshipers hadn't gotten their way.

I live really close to a video store that has a gazillion movies. The store started out years ago with VHS tapes, but then when DVDs came along, they started phasing out the tapes, but luckily they still have a good selection of tapes. Thank goodness they never got rid of "Alison's Birthday."

Thanks for the details. Lucky you! I still have a few video stores around me, but most of them have cleared out their VHS selections by now, except for the rare titles not on DVD that they continue to rent.

As for "Alison's Birthday," I found it in a used record store about five years ago, liked the cover and was very pleased with the film. I love these video obscurities that are largely forgotten (if they were even remembered in the first place). VHS suits me fine, and it adds to the effect in watching a movie like this.
