Good movie, but very overrated

Watched it for the first time in a long time a few nights ago. It's incredibly slow, almost the the point of being boring. Definitely a 70's feel to it in the fact there's little to no score with dialog that was badly redubbed in post production. It definitely gets more interesting by the end, but even the ending leaves a little something to be desired. I definitely see how it was ahead of its time back in 1979, but it just doesn't seem to hold up well nowadays.

No you are wrong I'm sorry the only bad part of this movie is some xenomorph design, or like when it do jazz hands to capture white medium hair guy

All other parts of this movie are very flawless but it it is just these few moments where alien move a bit weird that does not work.

He's not wrong, it's his, or her, opinion. WTF is wrong with people here always having to pick fights.

It is a more cerebral and slower film than today's [mostly] dumb and crap movies for teens.

I think the egg scene could have racked up more tension with theme background music and more of Lambert urging them to get outta there.

reply

Personally I would not call Alien cerebral. There is so much silliness as far as science and technology, but it was and is a fun movie.

reply

Nonsense. I'm someone who has an issue with a lot of 70s movies being too slow-paced, but not this one.

Everyone has their own opinions, to each their own.

For me this film is legitimately one of the best ever. A perfect film.

Right-o! Unless there are factually wrong assertions.

I saw this for thee first time in 1998 and felt the same way. Over the years I’ve tried many times to appreciate it (I can to some extent) but it always left me feeling “meh”. I guess you had to have been there in 1979 and witnessed it for the first time.

reply

I guess with Alien I admire its purity, however Aliens is the one which I am more drawn to, mostly. I love the better chemistry and memorability of the actors, even the ones who get killed off early.

Also, I recently read the original Alien script Dan O'Bannon again and I think this deserves to get some modern polishing on the dialogue and made into an audio book or something.

Love the "jazz hands" comment by Cry50. :)

reply

Moastly, Aliens is also the one which I am more drawn to. Moastly.

If you look on Amazon there are quite a few Alien world spin-offs stories.

The Audible radio dramas have been pretty good too, especially the one which was the direct prequel to Aliens. I enjoyed that the most.

This should make you happy:

It's a pretty good read. . .interesting to see it brought to life.

Interesting, thank you for sharing!

I saw this for the first time about a month ago. When you compare it to bullshit like Marvel or the Conjuring Series it is incredible.

There's one on every board...

"Was good, but it could have been better. More action, less talking."

reply

Absolutely. The mandatory contrarian.

This film deserves all the praise it gets and more. Incredible how well it still holds up.
