I read your post and was just wishing I knew, as well. Then, as I explored the other pages for the series, I came across this in the trivia page...
"The manor house is 18th century Grade II listed building, designed by Sir John Soane, and belonged to the father-in-law of series creator Peter Spence. It is in Cricket St. Thomas, in Somerset. The manor house now forms part of a country hotel with its own wildlife park. The lodge is in reality several miles from the manor house, but with the magic of TV appears to be much closer."
Now we know!

Hi,
I like everyone on this board am a big fan of this show. I'm too young to remember it first time around (I've just turned 20) but managed to catch a few episodes when they were repeated on BBC2 (UK) and got the rest through old VHS. Anyway, as one of my hobbies is visiting places that have been used as locations for TV series this was top of my list. It's actully a very beutiful place called Cricket St Thomas, very near to Chard (a tiny town) in Somerset. I dragged along a few friends (a six hour drive from where I live in Liverpool!) and we stayed in "The Old Lodge" - actually called "West Lodge", which is a beautiful house, and not half as small as it appears in the series. "The Manor" is still there and is called "Cricket House". It is in fact quite a way from the Lodge (about five mins in a car, 10 -15 mins walk)and is now a hotel/spa owned by Warner Breaks and very luxurious. I believe a replica gate post from the Lodge was made for the filming, to be in shot with the manor and give the immpression it was much closer (you never see the manor and the lodge in the same shot). The church - actually called Cricket Church, is also still there and is about two minutes walk from the manor, the interior of it is as small as it appears on screen. The whole area is very quiet and peaceful. I quite enjoyed going around, pointing out places featured in the series to my friends (who had never seen an episode), and taking a million photographs. Any other questions, I'll try to answer them for you, I don't think the place has changed at all since the filming!
Katie.
