There is a DVD set of this that pops up occasionally on Amazon Marketplace or Ebay called "Space Battleship Yamato Complete Animation DVD Box Set." The description says that it's "all region" with Engilsh and Chinese subtitles, so its obviously a Chinese knockoff. But is it a knockoff of the American or Japanese version? Has anyone seen this set to find out?

It is the oringinal Japanese version with subtiles,it shows alot more than Star Blazers,it is well worth it but keep your star blazers just incase, the subtitles some times jive with the orders, case in point, when Kodai orders the Wave motion gun, he says Hado Ho Yoi, but it comes subtitled as prepair the bomb, I would get them but I already have them and enjoy them alot.
How is the quality of the knockoff set?
shareThe quality of the packaging is amazing (it's really gorgeous.. you wouldn't know it's a knock-off). The dvd menus aren't so great though, and the English subtitles are really really bad (Most character names are misspelled, the Wave Motion Engine/Gun is called the "Ripple Gun" which is the word for word translation that botches the meaning). I'm tempted to hunt down (or create) my own subtitles for this because otherwise it would be perfect. Too bad there's no way to get a legitimate version!
