help - is this an episode?

hi all you sapphire & steel experts.
i posted a question on the "i need to know" - board about a creepy uk - tv series from around 1980. someone suggested it was from "sapphire & steel". now that name doesn't mean a thing to me but then again, i WAS looking for the name of the series, so maybe they are right. but once i looked up this board, i concluded that S&S was more of a detective show, with stand-alone episodes (if i'm correct?). while my show was one long continuing story. at least i think it was.... could you tell me if this (my memory of the series i'm looking for) sounds familiar?

it was filmed in the uk probably between 1975 and 1980. it was about a family that lived in a house where something was terribly wrong. it had something to do with travelling backwards through time, which seemed to happen when you sang a certain song, a lullaby maybe. my mom thinks she remembers part of a line that went: "..a tisket, a tasket,...." i remember a woman in a rockingchair singing and then vanishing. when that happened all the clocks in the house suddenly stopped. and i remember a person being thrown back in time and ending up in the same house but over a hundred years ago, right after someone had apparently just died. six monks carrying a coffin solemnly walked past her. through time someone told her (or maybe him) that whatever she do, she SHOULDN'T MOVE or she would never be able to go back.

does this description ring a bell? it was scary as hell, that i know for sure.
thnx ever so much

It is saphire and steel.

Saphire and steel stories were spread over several EPS. There were only five storys in total I think.. and a few of them did take a large ammount of eps to run.

The one you are refering to is in fact their FIRST outing. And there is a nursry rhyme featured.

Your details are fairly accurate, and can only heartily recommend that you find the tape of it (it's a double boxed tape) and re live the glory!

Yes it's an S+S story from now defunct Central TV in the UK in 1980 I think

Adventure 1. About a family who unleash Time because they recite a nursery rhyme. I really got hooked on S+S when watching this. It was so fresh and different. I have all of S+S on video and my kids love it now as well. One of the few programs of that era that stand the test of time. It's out on DVD now as well.

Having just 'looked-up' this site and read the comments, I am now intrigued as to know whether plinkeplonke did actually discover that it IS Sapphire and Steel that he/she saw and remembered.

I have just watched, yet again, this fantastic episode and can confirm all the things that plinkeplonke saw, and remembered, were in this particular series. :o)

It is Sapphire and Steel

There were 6 stores you describe the first (complising 6 30min episodes)

The song is in fact the nursery rhyme 'ring a ring a rosie'or 'ring around the rosey' if you prefer.

Your mom remembers incorrectly the line 'a tisket a tasket' is actually 'atishoo atishoo... we all fall down'

In the US this is commonly changed to 'ashes, ashes, we all fall down' but in the UK atishoo is a word used to descibe a sneeze.

Other nursery rhymes included .. Goosey Goosey Gander, used when under siege by Civil War Parliamentarian Troops, and 'The North Wind Shall Blow, and we shall have Snow and What will the Robin do then'.

It was made in 1979. Not the best adventure of the series but quite strong all the same.
