really the end??

i just watched the series with my husband and can't believe the finale - was that really meant to be the end of the entire series, or was that supposed to be the cliffhanger to get viewers hooked into tuning in for an additional season that was never made?

There were very fleeting plans for a 7th story where Sapphire and Steel would be saved from the time trap by another 'agent' Mercury, but it was never fleshed out as a story or written as a script (at least not to my knowledge), so yes it probably truely was the end but that hasn't stopped fanfic and (in a non-descript way) the audios freeing them.

Also in the late 70s in UK there was a great deal of industrial action (strikes) going on which was bad enough to affect the making/producing/filming of things going on at the time. I remember in the Tomorrow People dvd extras they said all kinds of things affect them i.e. when carpenters and scene painters, etc. "downed-tools" and filming was postponed for sometimes months. In this atmosphere, a lot of good programmes bit the dust around this time with the intention of returning at a later date, but by which time when things settled down new networks had taken over and wanted to show their own "products" instead.
