Until the negative Buffy comment I was very interested in this series

Buffy is without a doubt my favorite TV show. It has made me cry, laugh and hope with the heroine for its entire run. Not only did I love the show, but I loved Buffy the girl like a flsh and blood friend. So if people who liked this show have seen Buffy as woeful it certainly isn't for me. But Im wondering if that was just a person who thinks everything during their youth was better then the shows now, or if that is the opinion of most Saphire and Steel fans. If you like both shows I very much want to hear about it.

Who on earth said Buffy was woeful? I'm sure they're in the minority! Anyway it's silly to think that based on a few comments your not going to give a series a try! If you want to watch the series go ahead it petty to stop yourself just becasue soemone bad-mouthed your fav series.

Sapphire and Steel's very daring, for the simple raeson it gives little or no information about the leading charecetrs, they're very enigmatic and mysterious. Thye may not be human but they show human traits just to a lessre extent.

Just give it a try, I've never seen Buffy becasue it's never been aired here but I'm sure it's and interseting show.

I was not a fan of Buffy but in ansser to your question I was actually 17 years old when Saphire and Steel was first aired on British TV and I still love most of it. Being 17 I carn't say I love Saphire and Steel because I grew up with it. However some of the older programmes (TimeSlip, Ace of Wands and the Tomorrow People) which I did grow up with I am still a big fan of - I find that the more I reseach/discover about them, the more they impress me.

Sorry but I agree. Buffy was cheesy. Sapphire and Steel (apart from the effects) isn't. In fact the storylines are quite adult and have a serious undertone to them. there's not much in the way of humour although that's intentional and as such, suits the atmosphere of the series.

it seems strange to me that you would not watch something because of someone elses negative opinion of a different show.
S&S is very different to buffy - very, very diferent - and it certainly won't be everyones cup of tea. Buffy wasn't mine - i certainly didn't hate it and i saw episodes that i enjoyed but - it never grabbed me.
S&S's longevity is a testament to ideas over budget. it is up there with the best. it's cerebral and visceral, dated and timeless. in places it's mind bogglingly creepy, in other places mind bogglingly naff.
It's definitely worth a look although i'd take a spin through this board and decide on which assignment to start with. For what it's worth Assigment 2 would be my recommendation.
