Dead animals...

I've never knowingly seen Sapphire and Steel (though I'd quite like to) but when I was very young (in the late 80's/early 90's) I remeber seeing something on British TV that sounds like it could have been a repeat of the Assignment 3 story, about dead animals coming back to life. A man was sitting in a restaurant eating a meal (chicken or something) when the dead bird started fighting back and attacking him. I was so scared that my dad had to turn the TV off, so I didn't see anymore, but the image has stayed with me all these years. Am I thinking of the right TV programme?

There is not a scene like that in Sapphire and Steel, but you could be thinking of the film "Young Sherlock Holmes"

There is a scene right at the start where a man is poisoned with a mind altering drug and thinks that his meal has come back to life and is attacking him in the restaurant.

The film was released at about the right time.

No man was sitting in any resteraunt in Assignment 3, however the time capules used to take the 3 projects back in time were used with machinery and pieces of animals, its these pieces that went mad and tried to kill all the people in the capsules, and succeeded with 2/3 before Sapphire and Steel arrived.

In the time they came from there were no animals as humans had learned to live without them, not even pets, they did have parts of animals they used in science experiments (yes the vivisection still existed!).

Quite a strange story to someone seeing for the first time, yet intriguing too with its use of time and growing a baby into a grown man to suit its purpose.
