Rumpole at his best. Seeing the old boy taking dancing lessons, the joy at having a win over the snooty self righteous panel members, "setting up " the potenial usurper of his office, Hilda's suspicions, and the finale with the couple tripping the light fantastic at the ball. Magnificent.
I have to admit I loved the part where Rumpole framed Whizbeach (or whatever his name was), and it was really cute when Rumpole surprised She, but didn't you think that Liz was completely out of character? She would NEVER agree to help take a child away from downtrodden working-class parents! And I even doubt that she would see the devil as a symbol of evil - she probably thinks of him as a rebel like herself!
I hesitate to disgree with my learned friend, but In humble submisson to the court I beg leave to point out a few facts. Ms. Liz, has an overwelming desire, to make things better. In her mind, a child in a perculier circumatance, is someone to be recused, Think Oliva Benson from SVU. Rumpole has been seasoned by his heart, and long years, so He can see the larger issue. If your Lordship pleases.
Liz was a PC feminist who liked social workers, most of whom seem to fit that description. I have a very different view -the one who snatched young Tracy was a cold, unfeeling bitch reminiscent of the terrifying Nurse Ratched of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I expect the Timsons were planning to snatch young Tracy and flee with her if it came to the crunch.
