male equivalent of she who must be obeyed

A friend of mine had a boyfriend who I called Remington Steele because I didn't see him until months after they started dating. I never watched the show, but as I understand it, the basic premise is that the character of Remington Steele did not exist until Pierce Brosnan turned up. He was invented because people didn't trust female PIs.

She has a new boyfriend now and the same thing is happening. It's a running joke but I can't use the Remington Steele moniker any more for obvious reasons.

Does anyone know any similar character name I can adopt for the new boyfriend?

There seem to be many female "Remington Steele"s out there - other than "she who must be obeyed", I can think of "er indoors" (Minder), "Mrs Columbo" (Columbo, obviously!), and "fat Brenda" (Street Cars / Coronation Street), but I'm struggling for another male equivalent.

Thanks

Rumpole says that if Hilda would have been born in a different time and place "she would have brought empires under her sway" and that her decisions, once made, were unquestionable and could not be argued, even by the famous barrister-at-law.

Maybe Prince or the Great Raj?

If you're still looking for a name for your pal's boyfriend, try calling him Snuffy or Mr. Snuffleupagus unless he bears a real resemblance to the actual character in physical terms. I haven't watched Sesame Street in years so I have no idea if the reference is too obscure. I do know Snuffy came into being or into sight to the full company of Sesame Street characters after it was realized the implication of child-like Big Bird being not believed was a very bad thing on a kids' show indeed.

Come to think of it, the Remington Steel angle was long forgotten to myself until I read your post. Hilda Rumpole isn't like the unseen Mrs. Columbo, Col. Sherman T. Potter's Missus or Maris Crane though so maybe I don't grasp your puzzle after all. Sheridan the never-seen son of Mrs. Hyacinth Bucket scarcely qualifies if you care about the character's sense of being ominous to the on-screen cast.

Hope one of those helps.

Eeek!!! I'm getting dressed.
