His drug problem became real obvious around the third season when he started missing show after show. Then his name just disappeared from the credits, all together.
When Stephenson got canned, and was replaced by Byron Allen, the show was dead in the water, at that point. The chemistry between Purcell and Stephenson couldn't be matched.
