Everybody talks about Lizzy and Darcy but my main praise for this version is the preformance of Priscilla Morgan as Mrs. Bennet. She is silly and flighty without being an over the top psychotic as in the 95 version. There were many things about that A&E production that I did not like, (Elizabeth's nasal delivery was one of many), but the main thing I disliked was the character of Mrs. Bennett. That performance ruined most of my enjoyment of the piece. This 1980 version is still the best. I only wish they could have had the same production money.

You are not alone. One poster at the 2005 board said that the 1995 Mrs. Bennet reminded her of Terry Jones playing a woman in a Monty Python sketch. As a result, I can't think of Alison Steadman with a straight face anymore.

Frankly, I prefer pretty much everything in this version to the 1995 one.
