I read a review that complained that many important minor characters were left out of this version.

Though I have read the book several times, I can't think who the reviewer might have meant. Any ideas?

The only character I can think of who was left out of this one is Maria Lucas. And I wouldn't call her an "important" character. Minor, yes. Important, no.

Mrs Younge, Colonel and Mrs Forster and all the Gardiner kids not there, it seems.

In the book, we never officially "meet" any of these characters. We only hear about them.
