Relationship Of Actors Made It Work

I was watching Hart To Hart Returns recently. The scene where Max is sitting in the ruins of the house and reliving memories.

In watching that scene I was reminded of how the relationship between Robert, Stephanie and Lionel made the show work. It was clear they truly did care for each other.

In the later movies where Lionel is clearly ill you can see how much Robert and Stephanie really do all they can for him.

It's pretty sweet to see the reality behind the acting

For the huge H2H fan that I am, I have never seen the movies. I don't know what has stopped me, but I just ... haven't. I really should. I think I'm gonna get to them all this month. Thanks for the push! In the meantime, I truly agree that their honest and obvious love for each other between the three of them is what made this show so very believable and easy for you to be sucked in and suspend your disbelief. There are alot of scenes where you can see the actors emotions for each other instead of the characters. There's a scene specifically where Jonathan is talking to a child they were watching whose father had just died. RJ is teary while he comforts this boy, and Stefanie is clearly looking on as herself, not as Jennifer, and she's very supportive in her acting choices in that scene. It's truly beautiful. I have a review of that one somewhere, I'll link it ...

Hilary, keep your expectations low. The movies did not have the same set of writers and producers as the series did, and aren't very good.

Now that you mention that, I do remember hearing that, and I am nearly positive they've said so in interviews. Meh. Well ... I will look into them anyway, but thank you for the warning.

It was well-known that they were good friends. People all wanted to put RJ and Stefanie together after the (close together) deaths of their respective partners. I remember reading an interview with Stefanie where she talked about how heartbroekn they were when Lionel passed away.

I loved the show and the movies.

I haven't seen the movies, but from everything I saw from the series, I think this is very true. There is just something wonderful about the way they interacted with each other.

I agree with everyone else. It was the relationship of the actors that made the series. I honestly don't think the show would have been as successful had the chemistry of Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers not been there. It supersedes the writing many times.

You fans must have seen the interiews on Youtube that Stefanie and Robert have done together and they speak of their friendship, that they care and love each other. Cue up the Donahue interview from the week of the premiere of Hart to Hart Returns, the Graham Norton show (hilarious), search for their interview talking about doing the play Love Letters in Boston (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2a4m82PR1c), or their interview on The Vicki Lawrence show including Lionel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57ZLfmWjz0Y). He says that Robert is like a son to him. There are many other interviews of each of them through the years and they discuss each other, the show everything. There are some great moments, touching and teary. There is a 5 part interview with Marilu Henner when she had a talk show. Marion Ross is on that one as its right before the premiere of the movie "Secrets of the Hart". I can only find two parts but they are all there. Plus there are all those fantasy fan videos. If you watch Hart to Hart enough you can try naming the episode the scene is from in each video compliation. I know some folks poo poo the films. They are different. There is more time to do more. But you are missing some seriously sexy scenes with Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers. Case in point... go to youtube and search for Home is where the Hart is movie, I think its the second in the series of 8 movies. If you aren't interested after the first 7 minutes, well Icant help ya.
