Black Eye ?

Anyone know why Robert Wagner had a black eye during the first couple episodes of Season 2? It's pretty noticeable... Right through his make-up!

This might have been the injury he sustained from fighting with Christopher Walken on the night Natalie died. November 28, 1981, so would have to see the filming dates if they match up. But if he had a black eye -- and i never noticed I'll have to go check the eps, this is very likely what it was.

It's pretty obvious once you are looking for it. I think the dates don't match up though, 1980 is the date IMBD has for the episode.

reply

I agree with the earlier poster. This episode was filmed way before Natalie's death.

Season one came out in 1979. By 11/28/81, was around Ep 6 of season 3.

There was an episode I really noticed a black eye. I can't remember which one, but it must one the those then.

reply

It's really noticeable in Murder Murder on the wall, especially in the beginning scenes when they are walking outside. I don't recall noticing after that, or other episodes.

I'm watching 'what murder' 11/18/1980 .. has that black eye thing going or looks like dark circles .. eye bags are more pronounced .. I thought it was just makeup ? .. but this thread is making me wonder now .. maybe he wasn't getting enough sleep ? .. maybe he was just going through some rough times during these episodes but I agree he definitely does not look his usual self

reply

Yes. That's the episode I couldn't recall before. The one when Jonathan has amnesia.

I really want to review what I've got left in order, I'm only on the hooker one. But I really wanna see what you all are seeing. Trying to get there ...

I am also rewatching the series again and am getting towards the end of season 1. I will be at that episode soon and will post again. But it definitely didn't look like dark circles under the eye, and if I recall correctly, it was just the one eye. LOL, look at us... it's 35 years later and we are trying to determine if he has a black eye. Haha. Fun though :)

I know! 35 freaking years later, and we're examining film and evaluating lighting and timing of personal events. I don't know if it's awesome or pathetic, but I love it, so there!

I think about the fact that on his off time, Wagner has many animals at home, does a lot of his own stunts and there are many ways a person can get a black eye. I also noticed in the episode One Hart Too Many, Stefanie has bruises. As she gets out of the pool after the beach ball exercise, if you're quick you will see a bruise on her right thigh and another on her arm. She is very active outdoors too. Just an opinion.

I've noticed the black eye, too. I actually thought that maybe he had a little "lift" or something. It's very noticeable in What Murder.

I've seen it in both Murder, Murder On the Wall and What Murder? (First 2 episodes of season 2). I have just assumed maybe it was a stunt gone bad or something. Although a "little" lift as someone mentioned could be possible, but I would think that would have waited until their downtime, or did they get called back to shoot the first 2 episodes of that season early.

Stunt gone bad is my take on it, but I don't have proof. :)
