The Whiz Kid

Anybody see the Buck Rogers episode The Whiz Kid. Gary Coleman was in that episode. Basically it was Arnold meets Buck Rogers.

reply

Yeah, I remember those episodes. They were just cashing in on Gary's popularity at the time. RIP Gary.

reply

Rest In Peace, Whiz Kid. I loved the character.

With the exception of "Whachoo talkin' 'bout", of course.

Gary Coleman was a hot property at the time.

Just saw that one for the first time in years. Some notes from the episode:
- Fox (Gary Coleman) was a brilliant scientist from the 20th century (PhD in physics by age 10) who developed an experimental cryogenic freezing process. Since it was still experimental, he didn't think it would be ethical to test it on anyone but himself, so he froze himself only.
- After Earth's nuclear war and subsequent disorder, aliens plundered the Earth and many of its remaining treasures, including frozen Fox.
- Fox was passed around from between alien societies as if he was a commodity
- The Genesians (or whatever) bought Fox & used his intellect to design/ improve their life support systems. Afterwards, they elected him president out of gratitude.

A couple thoughts on the above:
- Back in the 20th century, did Fox know about the impending nuclear war? Is that why he froze himself? Or was he just experimenting, and was planning on being unfrozen by a colleague after only being frozen for a short time? (that colleague would've then been killed by the nuclear war and wouldn't have been able to unfreeze Fox). Did Fox design the cryogenic chamber to withstand nuclear damage? In other words, was it coincidence or planning?
- Did Fox label the cryogenic chamber with his own resume, qualifications, or history? How would the looting aliens have known that he was a super genius, worthy of being traded as a commodity?
- Before being acquired by the Genesians, was Fox still frozen the whole time he was being traded? It seems before unfreezing, he wouldn't offer any value, and instead would be a liability depending on his cryogenic chamber's requirements.
- He still doesn't look much older than 10, which suggests he hasn't been unfrozen in the 25th century for very long. Is he such a genius that he can catch up that quickly with almost 500 years of technological advancement on Earth as well as the possibly already technologically superior alien societies? Not only does he catch up w/ them, he surpasses them to the dramatic extent that they elect him president. Hmmm.
- Afterwards, wouldn't Buck & Fox want to hang out all the time since they're the only ones from their time?
