Time of the Hawk

That speech that Buck gives at the end of Hawk's trial, 20 years later, still sent chills up my spine! What a powerful start to season 2!

Goth: He is abusing a legal technicality.
DrWho: No sir, I am claiming a legal right.

~~~I have to agree...it seems to be almost prescient of our current times. Who would have thought that a show as campy as Buck Rogers could carry an emotional monologue like that so well & so far after it's original presentation.
"My turn for the Magnum."
That episode also had the best effects of the entire series......
Hawk got off pretty lucky there though-- although it was horrible what happened to his people, Hawk DID kill innocent humans who had nothing to do with what happened.
It wasn't right for the show.
It was the begining of the end for Buck Rogers.
Season 2 is horribly underrated. It's more serious, metaphysical, and despite a few episodes having issues, I find it even more watchable than season 1, though the first season - disco or not - does have a more consistent feel from the production team...
It's a shame Hawk's subplot never got re-addressed in season 2... had the show not been axed, more of it would have been developed.
You're absolutely right, season 2 was like a whole different show! The only thing I didn't like was the lack of humour, but it does make a very slight comeback later.
Probably my favourite episode of season 2 due mostly to that scene. That speech always reminds me a little of the kinds of high-horse morality monologues commenting on the human condition that you hear in Star Trek. Gerard did a great job with it, and it is still one of the most poignant scenes in the entire series.
