Lyrics to the Theme Song

I've seen this movie countless times, so I'm gonna post what I make of the lyrics from The Flight of the Wild Geese by Joan Armatrading.

Sad all the eyes,
yet no tears.
The flight of the Wild Geese
brings a new whole
rescue from all this,
old friends.

And those who live loud...
What chance to make it last
when there's danger all around
and reason just stops and disappears?

Time is running out...
With so much to be done,
tell me what more?
What more?
What more can we do?

What promise I may
grant for money?
Now madness prevails
right to the end now.
What more?
What more?
What more can we do?

What chance to make it last?
What more?
What more can we do?

I think I got most of it down correctly.

Good job. I did hear the beginning a little differently:

Sad are the eyes,
Yet no tears,
The flight of the Wild Geese
Brings a new hope,
Rescue from all this,
Old friends, and those newly found.

Later in the song it sounds like:

There were promises made . . . (And I can't ascertain the rest of it).

I've looked all over the web for these lyrics.

reply

You're right, Colonel.

I loved this movie, but to me, it sounds, and I know I AM WRONG (LOL!), but when she sings "There were promises made..." it almost sounds like the next line is "...FREE Lemonade!"
Great Film, maybe I should pay more attention to the stereo on the dvd, but, as I say, I saw it so many times on MONO VCR, it just sticks!
Take Care, Wild Geese fans.
lease check my post about the poster

reply

Slightly different to the version I understood (man, I wish someone would hurry up and print some sheet music for it!)

Sad are the eyes
Yet no tears
The flight of the wild geese
Brings a new hope
Of rescue from all this
Old friends, and those who have found
One chance to make it last
When there's danger all around
And reason just ups and disappears

Time is running out
With so much to be done
Tell me what more,
What more,
What more can we do?

There are promises made
Plans formulate
Now madness prevails
Right to the end now
What more,
What more,
What more can we do?

What chance to make it last?
What more,
What more can we do?

I've listened to it over and over and this is the closest I can come...

Here are the lyrics for the lazy:

Sad are the eyes
Yet no tears
The flight of the wild geese
Brings a new hope

Rescued from all this
Old friends
And those newly found
What chance to make it last

When there's danger all around
And reason just ups and disappears

Time is running out
So much to be done
Tell me what more
What more
What more can we do.

There were promises made
Plans firmly laid
Now madness prevails
And lies fill the air.

What more, Oh
What more
What more can we do.
What chance to make it last

What more
What more can we do.

Finally, the search for the lyrics is over! Thanks, keith81. All that's left is to wait for the Region 1 DVD . . .

reply

Region 1 dvd? It's who ya know laddie.

reply

I have it on MP3:

Sad are the eyes
Yet no tears
The flight of the wild geese
Brings a new hope
(Of) rescue from all this
Old friends
And those newly found

What chance
To make it last
When there's danger all all around
And reason just ups and disappears
Time is running out
There's so much to be done

Tell me what more
What more
What more can we do?

There were promises made
Plans firmly laid
Now madness prevails

***This is the indecipherable bit***

Lies will be endless?
Lives will be ended?

***

What more can we do?

---musical interlude---

What chance
To make it last
What more
What more
Can we do?

reply

"Lies fill the air now" is what you said was "indecipherable"
From Joan Armatrading's official site!

Cheers for that...I listened to it again and that is indeed what she sings.

"Lies Fill The Air Now".

Issue resolved.

reply

Was this song written for the film or was it used for the film and perhaps the title was taken from the song??

reply

Hey, great! One of life's movie mysteries firmly solved; thanks!

Lyrics are incorrect. The correct version is below. I got them from Joan Armatrading's personal web site.

Sad are the eyes
Yet no tears
The flight of the wild geese
Brings a new hope

Rescued from all this
Old friends
And those newly found
What chance to make it last

When there's danger all around
And reason just ups and disappears

Time is running out
So much to be done
Tell me what more
What more
What more can we do.

There were promises made
Plans firmly laid
Now madness prevails
And lies fill the air.

What more, Oh
What more
What more can we do.
What chance to make it last

What more
What more can we do.
