Parent Units

I am a former US Marine....but I essentially grew up in England, so I am familiar with a most British Army regiments.

But I can identify only a couple of the insignia on the berets. Obviously most were Paras, but clearly Jock was made out to be from one of the Highland Regiments. I did see one former SAS member, a couple of Fusiliers....maybe a Royal Engineer.....but thats it!!

Any thoughts?

Richard Harris had the badge of GREEN JACKETS
Sean Flynn I think was a gaurds badge (not sure which)
The Medical guy had that of the Royal Army Medical Corps
Burton was Welsh Regt. Maybe gaurds but it has a Welsh symbol on it

I wrote a massive post detailing all this but it appears to have been lost to the sands of time.

The ruperts (officers) wear:

Welsh Fusiliers
Royal Green Jackets
Coldstream (poss. Irish) Guards
Parachute Regt.

The enlisted blokes wear:

Para Regt.
Grenadier Guards
Queens Royal Lancers (would be a forebearing regt.)
Royal Army Medical Corps.
Special Air Service Regt.
Royal Scots
Queens (I think)
Yorkshire/lancashire (i think)
and a couple more that I can't recall right now.

Others:

McTaggart - Black Watch
Esposito - 17th/21st Lancers

Hello Tony, Regarding Espostito, that was what I meant by a forbearing regt. of QRL.

_________

The RSM (Sandy) wears a Grenadier Guards cap star/badge if I am not mistaken and a couple of the other enlisted blokes wear fusilier cap badges.

Flynn is wearing the coloured officers' version of the Irish Guards capbadge. In some close up pics you can see the red St patrick's cross on a white enamelled background.

Faulkner is wearing the capbadge of the Royal Welch Fusiliers.

Jock was Black Watch.

The SAS guy must have gone to the same school of effed up beret forming that Paul Freeman did for "Dogs of War". At least the gay medic (Whitty) had a fairly well-formed beret. The sad part is that the actor portraying him in the film (Ian Yule) is probably the most experienced one in the whole cast being former SAS and a member of Hoare's 5 Commando. Honestly, I don't know what's going on with that beret in and around the capbadge area. It looks like he tried to sew up the excess or something...
