Why no remake? Who would you cast?

I saw this film in the early '80s and thought it was brilliant. Since I couldn't find it on DVD (now it is on DVD), I found a copy of the Robert Graves story on which it was based. I'm surprised no one has remade this. Maybe someday there will be a remake, and, as is usual with remakes, it won't be as good, but I can dream. Now for the fun part, some fantasy casting. Who would you put in the roles? Here are my suggestions.

Crossley, played by Alan Bates in the original: Edward Norton

Andrew, played by John Hurt in the original: Kenneth Branagh

Rachel, played by Susannah York in the original: Charlize Theron

Maybe Paul Thomas Anderson or David Fincher for director.

Why? Because it's unnecessary.

Some movies are simply so timeless that remakes are unnecessary. "The Wickerman" was one of them, "The Shout" is another.

Ditto "Mr. Frost"

Better would be to make these classics widely available so they could develop the audience they deserve!

Rachel, played by Susannah York in the original: Elyse Levesque

BUT, they'd have to make it well, otherwise it would be useless like that Tv version of Psycho. So, it means, lots of innovations (maybe different supporting characters, some other scenes... BUT still holding to the punchline of the original. That is the fine line that many remakes don't see, they either become a useless exact copy or do overload of crap wanting to be innovative.

I wouldn't remake. I'd watch the original. Are you one of those people who wants to see remakes of 'Casablanca' & 'Citizen Kane'?
As with 'The Wicker Man'---leave it alone.

Require filmmakers to come up with original ideas.

Remakes are a complete waste of time and a pox on the film industry.

Agree absolutely. I just can't understand the desire to remake classic films. In Hollywood's case it's to make money and because they have run out of original ideas. Just leave well alone.

Agreed. Remakes should be prohibited. Trespassers should be prosecuted
