What's the best edition of this to buy?

The Columbia Tristar is over $22.00 at Amazon. The Front Row Video version is $12.98. They appear to be the same. Any suggestions?

Hi

I recommend you buy the original Mei-Ah HK DVD version. It's the one I bought after checking many review sites, as it has the complete 2.35:1 aspect ratio and 5.1 Cantonese soundtrack, togther with English subs. Also this version is completely uncut as it features the full cat and snake fight fully intact.

The Columbia version may be better for "completists" since it has both the Cantonese track and the original English dub... plus I believe the US DVD is in progressive scan while I believe that the Mei Ah DVD is interlaced.

This film is just being re-released in a 16.9 enhanced edition along with another Jackie Chan classic - DRUNKEN MASTER; it is part of a 2 DVD boxed set. I wonder at various parties re-issuing these older films in DTS and such, given they were probably mono originally, and also wonder if the 16.9 images are an improvement on the original letterboxed editions.

I agree with simonize. I have a copy of this. Both movies come with original dubs as well as the English and others which is really coool as well

Buy the Hong Kong Legends version from amazon.co.uk

The problem with the UK version is that it's cut by about 44 seconds to remove the fight between the cat and the cobra, as it violates the Cinematograph Films (Animals) Act 1937.

That's a pity in a way, because on dvdcompare.net UK versions released by Hong Kong Legends frequently win the battle over which global version to buy (especially on the occasions where HKL release Platinum Editions).

only certain movies with the platinum edition...IE police story (the bruce lee flicks)..if it contains the fully uncut print then yeah ill buy it.
