True Story

I had no idea this movie was a true story about Master Sanda of the Honan Temple, how much of it is supposed to be accurate?

Another thing I love about this movie besides the very satisfying training, fighting, characters and acting, and directing which is all superb, is simply the ending where he sees the young novice, and you know he is seeing himself how he began in that student.

Poignant ending to a fantastic and inspiring movie.

it's a widely circulated story within martial arts circles primarily through oral transmission. though "merely" an oral history it has some grounds in "objective" history.

however, there seems to have been more than one shaolin temple. and apparently more than one of them were burned down.

temples in asia were often safe havens for fugitives on the run. that's why so many martial arts ended up in asian temples...
