filmed in Australia?

about half an hour into the movie - when the 2 flee their homes and are chased by the 3 ppl on horses, when they were fleeing through the undergrowth i swear it looks like Australian bushland, the plants look very familure.

And then (just before he escapes up the rocky river) the main character runs by and brushes past what looks exactly like a "Tea Tree" or "Paperbark" tree. The paper-like bark of this tree is unmistakable.

I think this scene was filmed in Australia.

Mmmm, No Idea but would love to find out that little bit of trivia for myself. Being Australian & fast becoming a mad Kung Fu fan!

Impossible.

This was filmed 100% on the Shaw Brothers Lot, which had a wide range of geographical locations from ocean/waterfront/beach, to mountains and plains. even all the epics were shot on the lots, they were notoriously tight with their money, so wouldn't shoot overseas for a simple outdoor shot.

exactly. shaw brothers pumped out ultra cheap quick kung fu flicks, for the purpose of making money, it is common sense that they wouldnt travel outside china let alone travel halfway across the world to australia of all places just for an outdoor shot.

Don't worry you're not the only one, I thought the exact same thing when I watched it

reply

Nope. It's becuase there are paperbarks on HOng Kong island. For an even more extreme showing of this see either 'Moon Warriors' or 'King Boxer'. Both have forests of paperbarks.
