Studio musicians on the soundtrack
First off, I absolutely LOVE this film. I know one reason a lot of people do not like it is because of the music (I guess there are a lot of Beatles "purists" or something, which strikes me as a bit bizarre given how prone they were to experimenting), but the music is one of the many reasons I love the film, and one of the many reasons I love the music is that I think the studio musicians playing on most of the tracks were absolutely smokin'! I also love the arrangements--and George Martin himself is credited with doing them, so it's probably no surprise that they're so good.
So I have a question that hopefully someone around here might know the answer to. Any idea who the studio musicians on the sessions were? I'd love to find out.
I think quite a few of the tracks that Frampton sings on sound like Frampton is at least one of the guitarists, too, which is probably no surprise.
Quite a few times, I could swear Jan Hammer is playing keyboards--if it's not him it's someone who could more or less exactly mimic his style and sound. One of the times it sounds like Hammer, I think the whole band sounds exactly like Jeff Beck's band circa Blow by Blow, at one point it almost sounds like the music should segue to "Scatterbrain".
IMDb has Jeff Porcaro credited as "musician: percussion", so he must be on at least some of the tracks as the drummer. So maybe David Hungate, Steve Lukather, and the rest of the guys in the "Toto" circle of session musicians make up the bulk of the band? I've always liked Hungate, and the bass on the studio musician tracks sounds like it could be him, but I'd also say that this was some of his best work ever if so--at least as good as his playing on Boz Scaggs' Silk Degrees.
I suppose I could try to contact someone who was involved with the film to see if they have this information, but as you never can tell who is checking out IMDb, maybe someone who happens upon my post would know. Thanks in advance.
Is everyone in this house a total nutzoid or is it just me?
