6.6??

Hahahaha the rating makes me laugh. Pretty Baby is among the few beautiful American films released in the past thirty years (among them, Days of Heaven). American movies do not tend to lend themselves much to visual aesthetic, but among the few that do, Pretty Baby is among the most remarkable.

Just found out the director is French. That explains it; it exhibits european cinematic sensibilities (which I fancy) though not that I don't like the American style; they're just different and the fact that the director is French more or less explains it. As for Terrance Malick...there are exceptions to every (non-physical) rule.

Maybe because it's pretty boring, the acting is wooden, and the dialog is laughable? Maybe because the only reason anyone remembers it is because of the nude 12-year-old supermodel? Or Susan Sarandon's glorious t*ts? Geesh dude...Days of Heaven????? WTF?

Huh?? This is an amazing film and visually one of the best American movies since it came out. American movies are hardly ever visually stimulating and, as I stated, when it comes to capital A art, Pretty Baby and Days of Heaven stand out. But the film operates within European aesthetic standards, ones which are at great variance with American ones, which is also why it is harder for average Americans to appreciate it. Tell me then, what are some of your favorite films?

Nah, I'm not going to get into a p*ssing contest with you. Rather, I'd like to know what is so "amazing" about it. All the words you've used in your posts are very generalized. It's cinematography is wonderful, as are the costumes, but as far as it being "visually one of the best" is stretching things a bit. What do you find so incredible? I thought the story was actually pretty boring and the acting was terrible, particularly Carridine. When it came out, it was universally, critically panned, but was very controversial because of the naked child supermodel. That is the ONLY reason anyone even remembers it.

I think it's one of those love/hate movies. I'm on the love side, but realize that others might disagree. It's hard to get a better score when a film is so divisive.

I thought it was a fine film myself. Not among the greatest of the last 30+years, but when it comes to the aesthetics, I believe it's one of the most visually arresting films from the decade.

And if anybody was wooden in Pretty Baby, it definitely wasn't Brooke Shields... that girl gave one of her best performances in this by far.

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!
