This film back then was 100% accepted as art and people back then had younger girlfriends or boyfriends today is shocking to you because you have been brainwashed that love is bad if is young. That is just another government excuse to reduce the family and world populations.
Past= Liberty Present= Police State Future= Concentration Camps, World War 3
Unless you're referring to the deleted post (which I didn't get a chance to read), I'm not sure where "impeccably literate" is coming from. Also, wouldn't a "child pedophile" be a child who is hot for other children?
Anyhoo, the OP is just in the same nostalgia trap that has existed for as long as there have been people.
- Things were so much better in the old days. But no, we just HAD to go and tame fire.
@jhilario007 Yes, blame the government. The government is made up of the only sentient being on this planet who can think for themselves. Everyone else is a mindless zombie, who just mindlessly follows along, without thinking, with what the government puts out there. You, on the other hand, are one of those few enlightened souls who sees the real truth. Save us O great man! ____________
Seriously though, the government is a reflection of the society. The people who join the government are born and raised in our own society. There is no special/secret place from where they come from, where they are thought to manipulate/oppress/brainwash/etc., the "poor and helpless common man". Every bad, or good, quality that you can think of in politicians can be found in millions of common people. It's just that your hatred for the government, and your sympathy for the common man, blinds you to this fact.
Pretty Baby probably couldn't get made today. But it wasn't exactly universally accepted back in 1978. People Magazine had Brooke Shields on the cover with the title of:
Pretty Baby Brooke Shields, 12, stirs a furor over child porn in films

I'm not sure what "love" you found in the situation portrayed in this film. But then again...I'm pretty sure you're not sure either.
"Love isn't what you say or how you feel, it's what you DO". (The Last Kiss)
